Proud Parenting Moments
“This was not my proudest moment as a mother.”
I have heard this sentence on more than one occasion - and I may (or may not) have uttered it myself when reporting about the small and not so small mishaps in my attempts at parenting.
Even though I am a the-glass-is-at-least-half-but-probably-more-like-71.3%-empty kind of girl, I think it’s time to focus on the proud parenting...

Kitchen Renovation
We bought our house a little over three years ago and I hated the kitchen from day one.
Not that I spent a lot of time in there - I suck at cooking (I can only bake delicious German treats with built-in heart attacks) and my husband found it therapeutic to chop up stuff and cook it after his work day. Fine with me.
Last year I reduced my hours at my day job and now I’m home at 3 pm...
Memories and Surprises
Last week, in my other life (the one where I make short appearances four times a week and get paid for it), I was taking pictures of the newly built window display for our Facebook page. As I walked around the barely finished structure, looking for the right angle, I caught a whiff of the oil stain that had just been applied to seal the bare wood.
In an instant, the smell sent me back to my...
boyfriends, teachers, penguins and a crush
The best part about Valentine’s Day was our family dinner tonight.
PJ: So, A. asked me out today at the dance.
Me: What do you mean “out” you were already at the dance, where does he want you to go?
PJ: Moooommm, that means he asked me if I want to be his girlfriend!
Husband: WHAT????
M: ♪ PJ has a boyfriend, ♪ PJ has a boyfriend! ♪
Me: So what did you say?
PJ: Sure, why not.
Me: Alright...
Memories Captured in February
I found this great blog by Galit Breen and her Memories Captured monthly feature really intrigues me.
Here’s what we started last year and as the days are getting longer and it’s not quite getting warmer yet, this is what I’m looking forward to:
And just in case you are wondering how the view is from there:
The stages of (not) listening
I might have mentioned before that my kids are evil geniuses, but I am slowly penetrating their minds. I have finally figured out what they are thinking when they ignore my attempts to get them to do something.
And I think I have a solution.
This is what happens when I ask my son to clean his room:
After the second attempt, this time a little louder:
Well played, little Jedi, but I’m...
hunger games and playdoh
daughter: mom, can you look online how much the hunger games movie premiere tickets are?
me: i thought you were already going with your teacher Mrs. V. the day it comes out?
daughter: yeah, but i mean the tickets for the red carpet premiere in l.a.
me: ????
daughter: i just want to know how much the tickets are, then i'll think about it if i'm gonna go.
me: i don't think you can just buy tickets for that, it's probably invitation only.
daughter: oh, ok. can you look online then how to make playdoh?
Did you see the email I sent you today? I was doing some research in school...

Boulder, Colorado

Cold // Kalt
I’ll be writing this blog post in German, since one of my friends in Germany found it hard to believe that it gets to -35°C here in British Columbia - and I am happy to oblige and share my experiences with the Canadian Cold. No need to translate this one, since my Canadian peeps don’t even put on jackets at -35°C…. so what’s there to explain?

463 - taking the pledge
I have never really considered myself a mommy blogger. I did not follow people that are mommy and daddy bloggers on Twitter. I don’t personally know anybody else who blogs about being a parent.
Where am I going with this?
Well, even though I always felt I needed to keep my own identity outside of the family unit as a writer, I have started embracing the fact that I write about my family,...
